“I could not have expected a better trip than the one we had. I didn’t think we would have done so many things in so little time. I love how we all got very close and worked not as an individual but a team. We actually accomplished more then what I expected.“ (Quote from GP student)
Global Kids
In 2009, GP has developed exciting new partnerships with Global Kids in Queens and Harlem (www.globalkids.org). We work with Global Kids to help them develop international travel and low-income youth serving components to their programs. Global Kids operates in 12 different high schools in NY and recently was granted by United Focus to fund travel programs for kids focusing on empowerment education. They approached GP to organize its trip in April 2009, 5 youth from Long Island City High School in Queens and another 5 from the Transitional High School of West Side High.
Also from GP students:
“I think in the Dominican Republic I went beyond my own expectations. I learned that the expectations I had of myself were too low and that I could do more.“
“It affected me in many ways but they are all good. I learned that I can adapt to places. But it will take time. I also learn to be nice. The big one is that I can express myself with anger but no cursing. It affects me in many ways. I learned that I really like helping others. As well as learning more about different cultures and issues that is going on in the world.“
“It reinforced what I want to do with my life and future aspirations. I want to learn even more about the different cultures of this world and bring them help if it is needed.“
“The trip helped me realize I would want to do humanitarian work and travel to countries and help people help themselves.“
