Julissa, GP New York, AUP, 18 years old, originally from Dominican Republic

My name is Julissa and I’m a sophomore at Academy of Urban Planning, Bushwick Campus. I am participating in Global Potential because I love to help those in need, meet new people and learn from them. I also really liked the things I heard from the last group of AUP student that went to the Dominican Republic. I could tell that those students were changed by participating. They said they learned a lot, like how to be grateful for little things that we take for granted.
As a Global Potential participant I hope to learn about myself as well as the Dominican Republic. I also hope to learn the true meaning of the saying “money can’t buy love”. I look forward to interacting with my peers and others that live in the community and I can’t wait to meet my host family. In the future I plan to go to college and one day be a chief. I am passionate about helping others and getting involved in issues that affect my community as well as other communities.
