Queenie, 16, John D. O’Bryant, Boston, Originally from Haiti

Queenie is 16 years old and she is attending the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science in Boston. Here is a little bit about her. She is a young lady who likes to do things to make a difference in her community and in the world. Back in Haiti, she was part of a group that was willing to do good things for her community. “We used to do a lot of community service like cleaning streets, etc…. We had a group dance and we used to perform to raise money to help us with the projects that we had.” At school, she used to be in a dance group and she used to perform to help the senior class. Since she was little, she always had this passion to help people. Her biggest dream is to become a pediatrician. Queenie loves children and she cannot see them suffering. It hurts her to see little kids suffering from disease, to see them in the streets without clothes and barefoot. The thing that hurts her the most is when she sees them but she can’t do anything for them. That’s why when she grows up, she wants to become a doctor so she would be able to treat their disease and kind of give them a second chance to live a good healthy life. Queenie feels really good when she is doing something to help her people or her community. She is working with a group of kids at Orchard Gardens School and she is enjoying that very much.

Between her freshman and sophomore year, Queenie did a lot of fundraisings with this group call “Deronettes’ Brothers”. They are a group of Haitian gospel singers who do a lot of things to help people in Haiti. When she came to America three years ago, she was always looking for a program that offered those kinds of opportunities for people. When she found out about GP, she was really excited and she knew that she was going to be part of it. Queenie decided to be part of GP because she wants to start helping people now and will definitely keep helping people throughout her journey. Another dream of hers is to travel the world to the poor countries to offer her help as a doctor. She speaks 3 languages now which are Creole, French and English and she wants to learn three more languages so she won’ t need a translator whenever she goes to another country.
