Maria, 17, International High School of Prospect Heights, New York, Originally from Mexico

My name is Maria M. I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y but grew up in Puebla, Mexico. I’m 16 years old and a junior at the International High School @ Prospect Heights. I actually speak Spanish and English. Some of the things I like to do in my spare time are playing volleyball, listening to music, and watching scary movies. Some of the things that motivated me to join Global Potential were to improve my leadership skills and travel. I not only want to travel to have fun, but also to help people and communities. I like to help others, stay busy, interact with other cultures, races, and ethnicities, and feel connected to my hispanic background. I believe that I am here in GP because I want to make a change in other peoples’ lives by serving 6 weeks abroad and experiencing different ways of living.
