Arismar, Cambridge Rindge and Latin, Cambridge, MA

I am a Global Potential participant because I would like to experience something different so that I can appreciate the substantial people in my life for the things they have provided for me.

I am involved in dance like with Estrellas Tropicales and am part of two baton twirling sections of the group. I volunteer at a daycare and I am often at Area Four youth center in Cambridge, MA, helping children with their homework. I think that being a leader means doing hard work, being a role model and having the ability to have others follo you. I think I am a leader because I listen to everyone’s ideas and try to incorporate everyone’s piece so they can be satisfied and don’t feel left out. There is a huge drug problem in my neighborhood as well as teens getting pregnant too earl. This can be prevented but teens don’t have the resources or the environment to have the proper educatio for this.

As an older teen I feel like the oslution to these problems could have to be taken on by teen center so teens stay out of the streets and do something productive like with Global Potential. I am excited to travel to the Dominican Republic this summer because I am affected by the povety there and I would give the world for those kids to have the things I have had in life. I would like to be a social worker, psychologist, anaesthesiologist or nurse midwife. I would love to work in the medical or health fields and with Global Potential I can learn more the values of responsibility and get on the right track. I believe that one’s potential means ambition, dedication and drive to achieve one’s goals and aspirations in life.
